Adult Faith Formation
| Adult Confirmation Preparation is provided to those adults (17 or older) who for one reason or another were not confirmed during their faith formation process at their parish. This offering is provided several months before the scheduled confirmation for those young people in their parish faith formation preparation. Anyone who is interested in this option contact Deacon Frank Herlihy at deaconh@nycap.rr.com
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) The RCIA is a process put in place after Vatican II to welcome those who wish to learn about the Roman Catholic Faith Tradition. The process is open to children and adults who have not been baptized, those who have been baptized in other Christian faith traditions and to those Roman Catholics who have been baptized but who have not received faith formation. The process may take anywhere from six moths to two years depending on the background of the individual seeking initiation. The Bishops of the United States recommend that anyone in the process should experience a full liturgical year.
Parish parishioners walk with those who seek initiation, providing catechesis and mentoring them along journey. The journey ends ideally with the Vigil of Easter at which time the sacraments of initiation – baptism, confirmation and Eucharist – are celebrated. If interested in becoming a part of this process either as a member of the RCIA staff or of participating in the process contact Deacon Frank Herlihy at deaconh@nycap.rr.com.
